Turbine Wheel Clip & Rebalance

Turbine replacement/Upgrade

Turbine Clipping

Many times when we upgrade a turbocharger compressor wheel, it is necessary to also "clip" the turbine wheel.  Clipping refers to removing the trailing edges of the turbine blades to allow less restricted airflow to pass through the blades and out the turbine housing.

Below is a picture showing a clipped TD05H turbine wheel beside a non-clipped version:

The turbine wheel is the only thing standing in the way of air exiting the engine and the exhaust system.  If tolerances are too tight for the application, air cannot escape efficiently.  This can cause two distinct problems: 1. Boost creep - when the air cannot escape quickly enough, it will attempt to push through the turbine at a rate too high for the turbo to allow.  This will cause boost levels to rise, in some cases to dangerous levels. 2. Decreased power - If the air cannot escape quickly enough, many times the car will NOT perform to its fullest potential

When we clip a turbine wheel we use very precise tooling to make sure that we can offer the most precise removal of material possible. We also them rebalance the turbine wheel on our state-of-the-art Heins TC3 balancer:

Features :

Improved turbine flow

Increased power

Increased torque

Reduced risk of boost creep

Turbine wheel clip and rebalance on most models - $99.00

Turbine Upgrades/Replacements

In some cases a simple turbine clip is not the best solution.  Sometimes the turbine wheel can be replaced with a better flowing model for even better results.  Two of the common upgrades/replacements we perform here are swapping the TD04HL turbine wheel into place of the smaller TD04 standard turbine wheel, or the replacement of a TD05H turbine wheel with the mammoth TD06H turbine wheel for larger engines.

Replacing the turbine wheel can be an expensive option, there is the cost of the turbine wheel kit, as well as the machine work to your turbine housing to allow fitment of the turbine wheel into your housing.

Prices for turbine replacements (using new parts) start at $389.00

This is a good upgrade to perform if you are looking into higher than normal boost applications, or if you are considering a compressor wheel upgrade.
